Varsovianas

Varsovianas (or varsoviennas) are a couples dance with the first part a series of turning and stopping movements. (you can hum "turn around and stop" in two bar patterns). The second part of the dance (and the tune) is a mazurka.

John Meredith collected the first of these from Sally Sloan of Lithgow, NSW and the second from Fred Holland of Mudgee.

Joe Yates was a fiddle player who spent his life in the Hill End and Sofala district of central NSW. These are his two varsovianas; Joe Yates' Varsoviana No 1 and Joe Yates' Varsoviana No 2.

These two tunes are from my home town of Gilgandra, NSW. John Meredith recorded Father She Said from Frank Creenaune and Dorothy Nangle's Varsoviana from Dorothy Nangle.
